This is the fire bunker I am building at Jarrahdale. It will eventually be covered by a rockery (you can see the coffee rock in this photo). I am inestigating a fire resistant material called Fyrchek. This will be used to form a circular "door" with which to close off the "open" end of the bunker. The other end of the bunker has been bricked up completely. This fire bunker is inexpensive, simple, and requires no council permission. It also doubles up as a cyclone refuge (which might interest our more northerly Australian friends). I believe this sort of bunker would have saved many lives in the Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria.
