Colin Abbott and the Fire Bunker, Jarrahdale, May, 2009.

This photo appeared on the front page of the Comment News on May 12th, 2009. It was accompanied by an article on the idea which I had stumbled on when I read a letter to The Australian written by a wonderful chap called Ron Edwards. Ron was the Federal Member of the House of Representatives for Stirling from about 1983 until 1993. He was a member of the House of Representatives Committee which looked into the Ash Wednesday bushfire of 1983. Ron has given me a lot of support in putting his idea into practice.

Building the Fire Bunker at Jarrahdale.

Gary, Humes driver, was very helpful and patient. He spent a lot of time ensuring that the pipes were placed in exactly the correct spot. Don't know what I would have done without him. My contact at Humes (Johnny, I think) was also a great help. Humes phoned me to query the stated $15,000 price tag for the two pipes in The West Australian. The West had made a mistake, and issued a correction notice the very next day. The reporter was most apologetic.

This would have been early May, 2009. Each concrete pipe (culvert) is approximately 2.4 metres long. As you can see, I've begun to build a rockery to cover up the pipes. When the job is finished, you won't see the pipes, it will look like a landscaped rockery. Should be nice.

Abbott and the Recession

Jeez, this bloody recession is really stretching my resources. Like an ageing contortionist, I'm finding it very difficult to make ends meet.
